Utility Service

Application for Service

To open a water utility account with the City of Yelm, return the utility application to City Hall, along with your identification.  Please allow 24 hours to connect a new service.

If you are the owner of a rental unit, you have option to open the utility account in your name or place the account in the tenant’s name as a courtesy. The homeowner completes the application and you will receive a duplicate copy of delinquent bills. The tenant will receive the monthly billing.

If you use a property management company to manage your rental, you can authorize the property manager to transfer the account in your absence, please submit the property management agreement to the City if this is the case.

Payment Options

In person with cash, check, debit or credit cards at City Hall, the payment counter is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  A drop box is located in the parking lot closest to Yelm Avenue.

Online with a credit or debit card. There is a $1.00 processing fee to use this service.

By phone with a credit card by calling 360-458-3244 and selecting "Pay Utility Bill Over the Phone" in the menu. You will need your account number to use this service and there is a $1.25 processing fee.

Automatically with autodraft - with payment directly from your bank or credit union on the 15th of each month. A voided check or documentation from the bank with your account and routing information will need to be submitted with the autodraft form. 

Monthly Billing

A combined water, sewer, and stormwater statement is mailed to consumers on the last business day of each month. Landlord and property owners that are not currently receiving monthly utility bills are billed semi-annually for stormwater. The statement includes a graph to allow usage comparison for your account, billing charges calculation information, emergency contact information, and a comment section.  Bills are due on the 15th of each month.

Delinquency Notices

On the 16th of each month, accounts are delinquent.  Notices are mailed to accounts with outstanding balances, indicating their past due balance and the date service will be disconnected for non-payment.  Payment of outstanding amounts must be received at City Hall before the second Wednesday of the following month  to avoid service interruption and the addition of a $50.00 fee.
